Defensive gem?

Saturday night Auburn battled it out with Mississippi State in a 3-2 victory...in football.  Yes, you read that right, that was a football score, not a baseball score.  Many would lead you to believe that this was one of those tough SEC defensive struggles, but I find that to be a load of baloney.  I love the SEC, it is a major defensive conference, but this was nothing, but a bad game of football.

Now, it does appear that Auburn played good defense on Mississippi St. since the Rebels were unable to score on offense and were 0-14 on 3rd down conversions.  Auburn on offense was a different story.  They racked up 300+ yards of offense, 154 passing yards, but amazingly when it came to crunch time couldn't do anything.  They were 3-16 on 3rd down and had 94 yards on penalties...94 yards!  In fact, the lone score they gave up to Miss St. was a holding in the end zone for a safety.

Are we to believe that Mississippi St. went from giving up 32 points to Louisiana Tech and Southeast Louisiana to being able to hold a top 10 team to 3 points in one week?  The all-intelligent voters at the AP apparently think highly of Mississippi St. because Auburn only dropped one spot in the polls this week.  Yet, another reason to completely ignore the polls for the first month of the season.
