The Weekend in College Football

#9Clemson vs. #24Alabama - Alabama

ECU vs. #17Va Tech - ECU

#25Pitt vs. Bowling Green - Bowling Green

Just wanted to say how proud I was of myself for picking these 3 "upsets" this weekend. I put upsets in parentheses because technically they were upsets. The Alabama and ECU victories weren't surprising to me and the Bowling Green victory was only mildly surprising. I didn't pick the biggest upset of the weekend, which was Tennessee losing to UCLA.

Interesting story of the weekend was at the Duke game. At about 6:20 a parachuter landed on the field with the game ball, but nobody at the game knew anything about the parachuter. After looking into the matter a bit, they discovered the parachuter was supposed to land in Chapel Hill at the UNC game, which started at 6. I guess they didn't wait for the game ball.

Speaking of Duke, they looked solid in routing James Madison 31-7. I know some people are going to say that JMU is just a Div. 1-AA team (or FCS if you will), but just to let you know they got shut out at home by Richmond just two years ago. This was an impressive victory. Alabama looked mighty impressive as well. And either they are much better than expected or Clemson really is that bad. The scary thing (in a good way) is Alabama's passing game didn't really look all that great, solid but not spectacular, and their running back that ran for 96 yards was just a true freshman. Also, Alabama's defense that wasn't supposed to be all that good held Clemson's dynamic running duo to 20 yards.
